South Australia’s International Students to Serve Two Week’s Quarantine at Parafield Airport
South Australia’s Chief Public Health Department has issued a plan that lets incoming International students serve two weeks quarantine period in the Parafield Airport facility located in the city’s north. As per the City of Salisbury Council, existing buildings at the airport will be used to quarantine incoming students, whereas CBD medi-hotels will continue used for returning Australians. The decision of keeping students in quarantine is a good step towards stopping the COVID-19 pandemic and boosting the incoming of international students who are the main economic drivers of Adelaide CBD.

Speaking on this condition, Salisbury Mayor, Gillian Aldridge, said that this decision will stop the spread of Covid-19 and let the community recognise the efforts Government is taking to ensure the safety of society.
Chief Public Health Officer, Nicola Spurrier, said that the decision is approved as it is meeting all the protocols and requirements of the Commonwealth. She further added that international students are part of South Australia’s multicultural fabric, as every three students are responsible for creating one job. International students are one of the crucial elements of South Australia’s economy, which contributes over $2 billion in 2019 through schools and universities and boost to retail, hospitality and tourism sectors. Over 20,000 jobs were also underpinned by international education in the year 2019.
Opposition health spokesman Chris Piston, vocals his opinion by terming this plan as” incomprehensible”. He said that setting up a quarantine facility just for international students and relying on hotels for all the other returning peoples is unacceptable as many people are catching COVID-19 under hotel quarantine due to less prevention facilities. He further said that along with international students, other returning Australians should also get out of hotel quarantine.
