New Migration Points System Announced: Know The Details of Points Change By Australian Government
A new regional visa & points system has been launched by the commonwealth government of Australia for those applicants who get a nomination from a territory or state government.
In order to assist regional Australia three new regional visas (skilled) have been launched under the migration regulations amendment 2019.
As per the issued illustrative statement by the immigration, multicultural affairs and citizenship minister states – the changes provide an edited system of points for the visa subclass 491 and for the current general skilled migration visas. - Extra 10 points for those who possess certain science, technology, engineering and maths qualifications
- Extra 10 points for those who do not have a de facto partner or spouse
- Extra 5 points for those who have a de facto partner or spouse with competent English skills
- Charanpreet, one of the expert migration consultants said, these changes are beneficial to both singles as well as those who have a skilled spouse.

The changes to the point system follow the recommendation of the productivity commission. This commission had recommended in its report in 2016 that the points system should be amended so that secondary applicants with skills & other useful employment-related attributes contribute considerably to the point’s score of the primary applicant.
The productivity commission found that 50% of permanent skill intake in Australia is secondary applicants; a lot of those have limited skills. On the basis of the significant share of the secondary applicants in the permanent stream skill migration, the commission states that it is necessary to evaluate their contribution to the economy of Australia and the community more generally as failing to give proper weight to the skill and other characteristics of a de facto partner or spouse can shift away the composition of migration from those that will be more beneficial to Australia, the illustrative statement states.
According to experts, the new system will be beneficial for the more skilled candidates with better English skills.
