New Australian Immigration Changes from July 2019

Lowering of the Immigration Cap

Due to issues of growing congestion in Melbourne and Sydney, The federal government declared that it will cut back Australia’s annual permanent immigration intake to 1,60,000. The intake has been capped at 190000 since 2011 but intake fell to just over 162,000 in 2017-18. The effect of overall cut will be marked by skilled independent visas that permit people to work and live anywhere in Australia. Now the annual quota of this subclass is slashed from over 43,000 to nearly 18,000 – a move that has brief inhabitants in Australia stressed that it may constrain a delayed transitory residency period on them.

According to the government, the cap will be kept up for the next 4 year.

Changes in Regional Visa

The government declared an increment in the number of visa places for regional Australia with 23,000 skilled visas being engaged for those willing to work and live in the regions. In this year, 2 new provisional regional visas to be initiate in November- Skilled employer-sponsored visa have 9000 places and skilled work regional visa will have 14000 places respectively within the annual immigration cap of 1,60,000.

Visa holder of sub-classes has to spend at least 3 years instead of 2 years to be able to become eligible for applying for permanent residency.

In 2022, a new regional permanent visa will be introduced. International students can use an additional year of post-study visa if they are studying in any educational institute in which are outside Perth, Sydney, Southeast Queensland and Melbourne.

Government offering Extra Points for Skilled Migration

Visa appliers nominated or sponsored for these regional visas can take the advantages of 5 extra points by their point’s tests. The governance has announced that they will offer extra 10 points to applicant with a skilled spouse and for those without a spouse. They are offering extra points for qualification in STEM subject as well.

Parent visas are being accepted from July 1st 2019

The total number of visas issued is capped at 15,000 per year. New applications for Temporary Sponsored Parent visas are being accepted from July 1st 2019. Visa- it was promised before 2016 federal election- is being made available this year because after civil law. The Federal parliament was bound to pass it by the month of October last year. New visa is related to a sponsored system.

To become approved sponsors, permanent residents or Australian citizen have to first apply. Their parents will be eligible to apply for visa that will permit them to stay in Australia for a continuous period of up to five years. But for this, they have to approve as sponsors.
