Australia Introduces MATES Visa for Indian Professionals: A New Initiative

As of November 12, 2024, the government has finally announced the initiative of MATES after speculation for many months. They have launched MATES under the Subclass 403 visa. This regulation allows graduates from India and professionals who are in early careers in targeted industries to reside in the country and work for up to two years, supporting skill exchange and bilateral cooperation.
These professionals and recent graduates of the best Indian colleges are eligible to apply for temporary employment starting in December 2024. There will be 3000 temporary visa places every year through the ballot procedure. It offers an equitable and streamlined way to select applicants. The good news is the fact that the participants may bring their dependents as well.
The Focus
In a move to solidify the bilateral ties and take on the skill shortages, the Australian government has launched the MATES Visa for Indian graduates. It is a specialized program that is developed to attract young talents and recent graduates from India. There are 3000 places every year for the age group of 18-30.
This new effort is a component of the Mobility Partnership Arrangement and the migration between India and Australia. Every year, these 3000 selected students will be able to work and reside in the country starting from November 2024.
